Bustle in Your Hedgerow

2:42 PM EDT Wednesday, July 12 2006

It pains me to learn that the Duo will once again be pairing up with Dave Dreiwitz of Ween and Scott Metzger of Particle to perform instrumental jazz rock versions of Led Zeppelin songs, but I won't be able to attend. There are going to be two shows, one is a post-Lollapalooza show on Sunday, August 6th at Abbey Pub in Chicago, IL, the second, the original scene of the crime for me, will be on the Rocks Off Boat Cruise leaving from the West Side of NYC, Monday, August 28th. I was at the Thursday, April 14th, 2005 Bustle in Your Hedgerow show and it remains to this day one of the most incredible live music shows I've ever seen. Unfortunately, I've never been able to obtain a copy of that show, but the Soundboard from the 7/31/2005 show is not bad.

I won't be able to attend either of these shows because they are far away on a Monday night. It's too bad, if that NYC show was on a Friday or Saturday, I'd definately head up there for that. It would be a great way to start off the the moe. down 7 week. If you're in the area for either of these shows, I highly recommend it.

Trey and Mike to Tour with Duo

9:21 AM EDT Saturday, April 29 2006

It's all over the Internets so you've probably already heard, but two big news items came out of an interview with Trey on the Sirius Jam On station on Thursday. First, as was previously rumored, Trey and Mike will be going on tour with The Benevento/Russo Duo this summer. You can find links to actually download mp3s of the interview on the Phantasy Tour Message Boards. Some other details that are in the interview that have not been reported on other sites are that Trey has been working on an album and the Duo play on 4 of the tracks on the album. There is also a version of Goodbye Head that include Mike and a 40-piece Orchestra. Trey says the album is ready and he was "handing it in" on Thursday. He says he'd like to have it ready for the tour this summer, but it can usually take 4 months to get it on the shelves, so he's not optimistic about that. Also on the same Phantasy Tour Message Board, there are links to download part of an unknown recent Duo show where Marco sheds some extra light on the subject:

"By the way it's farking official, Joe and I are going on tour with Trey and Mike this summer. Trey actually gave us the final word, June 28th - July 22nd. Hopefully one night Joe will play guitar and Trey will play drums and no one will know the difference."

Trey also mentioned in the Interview that the would be on tour with Phil and his band. The Sirius interviewer (who was horrible, in my opinion), mentioned that they would be opening for Phil, but I didn't ever hear Trey use the word "open", just "with". Trey also said he was 99% sure there would be a show on July 4th. The 4th is on a Tuesday this year, any chance he plays anywhere near DC? Doubt it. One other place I know they won't be playing is Wakarusa. The Duo will be at Wakarusa, but Trey will be Nissan Pavillion. That sucks because the very same day, moe. will be playing with the North Mississippi All-Stars at Wolf Trap. I feel like there are never any good shows around DC, then I'm out of town for Wakarusa and 2 good shows roll into town. Oh well, the Duo will be at Wakarusa, along with a ton of other good bands.

The second big news item that came out of the interview was that Trey definately thinks it is possible that Phish could play again in the future. Here's my suggestion on that Phish (not that you are listening, but whatever), just play a couple shows a year. One massive campout Lemonwheel/IT/Coventry kind of thing in mid-August, and maybe another one down south for NYE. The rest of the year, go back to the Barn, write new music and learn how to play all your own songs that you have long since forgotten how to play (Fluffhead, YEM, etc.) Also, collaborate with other musicians and have other bands come to the festivals. Not a lot of other bands, just like 2 or 3 per festival.

Half Phish, Half Duo

12:03 PM EST Monday, March 6 2006

Rumor has it that Trey and Mike will be joining the Duo to produce a recording and play tour dates. This is easily the most exciting post-Phish news to date. Trey has just been completely wasting his time with 70VP and if he plays will the Duo, he will be forced to play creative, improvisational music once again. I really hope that they don't play any Phish songs. I think it would be an injustice to Page and Fish to have Trey and Mike play Phish songs in a 4-piece guitar/bass/keys/drums band. Even more so, I really hope Trey and Mike play will the Duo at Wakarusa, where I'll be in the front row to experience it all.
